You'll Never Guess What An "Ad" Really Is

What if everything you thought you knew about ads was wrong?

Ads are the worst, right?

Those annoying, in-your-face promotions that interrupt your favorite content and try to sell you stuff you don't want or need.

What if I told you that your entire perception of ads is completely wrong? That the way you've been taught to think about advertising is just scratching the surface of a much deeper reality?

I learned a new way of grouping ads. One that changed how I’m approaching marketing and promotion.

Advertising is salesmanship.

If you're someone who has been struggling to attract an audience or get people interested in your offers, then this new view around ads is going to be a game-changer.

4 Fundamental Modes of Advertising To Master Authentic Promotion (Even If You Hate Ads)

To truly understand advertising, you need to get familiar with these 4 core advertising modes:

Cold Mode

This is what most people think of as traditional "advertising".

Interrupting someone's experience to pitch them an offer. Can be a TV commercial, website pop-up, or Instagram sponsored post.

It's called "cold" because the person wasn't necessarily looking for your product or service.

Warm Mode

Warm advertising happens when you've already captured someone's attention or interest. Usually from other means like content marketing or referrals.

Now you can promote relevant offers to this "warm" audience in a more natural.

One-to-One Mode

The most direct and personal form of advertising happens in one-to-one conversations and interactions, like sales calls or direct emails.

When done with authenticity and care for the individual, this can be an extremely effective way to promote.

One-to-Many Mode

This mode leverages your voice, personality and expertise.

You promote offers and opportunities to your audience. Like social media, podcasts, webinars, youtube videos, etc.

It's a chance to "advertise" in an engaging way.

Here's what you learned today:

Ads aren't just annoying promotions.

They are any communication that captures attention for an offer. There are 4 distinct "modes" of advertising: cold, warm, one-to-one and one-to-many

Mastering these modes allows you to promote authentically and avoid being "salesy".

The key is to focus less on traditional cold advertising, and more on cultivating an audience and building real relationships where you can promote offers in an authentic, valuable way through the other modes.

Take some time to assess which advertising modes you're currently using and how you can start leveraging the ones you've been neglecting.

Next time you write an ad with AI make sure to give it context what mode you are using.

PS... When you start out with paid ads it can be scary. Even as an experienced user, ROAS is tough. When you leverage AI agents for your ads your business grows.

More growth. Less stress.
